Welcome to Languages – your passport to the world.
At Albany Senior High School we offer Indonesian and Italian as a compulsory subject in Years 7, 8 and 9. There are opportunities to continue your language learning into Year 10 and beyond.
Some of the key concepts explored in Languages are: -
-the origins of language
-similarities and differences to English
-multiculturalism in Australia
-the richness and diversity of other cultures
-developing an international outlook.
In order to develop language skills we encourage students to access ‘real’ language and to communicate effectively in the target language. This is facilitated by the use of ICT in the classroom. Some of the activities include, playing interactive games, using the interactive whiteboard and recording and videoing role plays. In the future we hope to be able to communicate directly with other schools either through video conferencing or email.
The Indonesian students are encouraged to make links with our sister school in Indonesia. In some years there will be the opportunity to host an exchange student.
The Italian teachers association run an exchange progamme to Italy. Students need to host a student for 6 weeks in July and August. Then they get to travel to Italy in December and January. This is available to all students who have studied Italian in Year 10.
We look forward to you joining our global community.
