At Albany Senior High School, the Home Economics staff are passionate about their subject area. They recognise the valuable role it can have in promoting the wellbeing of students both now and in their future. Through the key areas of food and nutrition, materials & design, childcare & families, students are given the opportunity to develop practical and creative skills to become independent and critical learners. While the key focus is on the practical and production work, students also utilise the technology process to investigate, devise and evaluate. Students are encouraged to make use of ICT where relevant to enhance their studies.
Our courses are aimed at developing those essential basic skills. At the same time we are keen to stay up-to-date with current trends and research. For this reason aspects of our International Cuisine course have been loosely based on the Masterchef concept. In addition we like to incorporate community events were possible, such as catering for the Biggest Morning Tea. The very popular “RealCare Baby” program is available in the Year 10, 11 & 12 childcare courses.
Home Economics courses at Albany Senior High School are available from Year 8 through to Year 12.
